There is always another story waiting to be written, another chapter requiring attention, another book to publish, or another idea demanding to be explored. For writers and creatives, it can sometimes feel as though stopping means falling behind.
But the quiet moments matter too.
Creativity doesn’t only happen while our fingers are moving across a keyboard. Sometimes, it happens when we’re sitting outside with a cup of coffee, listening to music, watching the world go by, or simply allowing ourselves to do absolutely nothing for a while.
Those moments give our imaginations space to breathe.
Characters can quietly develop in the background of our minds. Problems with plots sometimes solve themselves when we’re no longer actively fighting with them. New ideas can appear precisely because we’ve stopped trying to find them.
The publishing world often celebrates productivity: more books, more words, more releases and more content. Yet creativity isn’t a machine that can operate endlessly.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do for the stories we’re creating is to step away from them.
Cherish those quiet moments between the stories. They aren’t wasted time.
They might just be where the next great idea begins.
