As some of you may be aware, there’s been a new Twitter API policy that came into effect recently after CEO Elon Musk made a few changes in the company. While it’s had an impact on many companies, the Resident Evil Ambassador Program has come to a halt due to it. Thanks to the changes, it can no longer give you ambassador points until further notice.
How has the new Twitter API policy affected the Resident Evil Ambassador Program?
For those of you who don’t know, The Resident Evil Ambassador Program rewards fans of the game who share news about the RE games. They receive points, reflecting just how loyal they are to the brand. However, it all revolves around one premise: you need to use a specific hashtag on Twitter to gain these points.
So, how does the new Twitter API policy affect this? The REAP system uses the API to detect anyone that’s using the hashtag, and then calls it to the program to reflect the loyalty points. You need to connect your Twitter account to your REAP profile, which is also where the API comes in.
Here are the current latest announcements on the REAP platform to members regarding the new Twitter API policy:
- Currently, the Twitter API has been suspended, and it is not possible to register a new “Resident Evil Ambassador Program” or re-link your Twitter account.
- New registration for the “Resident Evil Ambassador Program” is not available.
- You can register CAPCOM ID and Resident Evil Portal, but the Twitter link for Ambassador registration is currently unavailable.
- Registered users cannot reconnect their Twitter account to the Resident Evil Ambassador Program.
- Registered users cannot change their Twitter icons to Resident Evil Portal icons.
- Twitter icons that have already been set can still be used.
- We are currently discussing with Twitter, Inc. to resolve this issue, but the date of resolution has not yet been determined.
- We will inform you as soon as the restoration is completed.
Will REAP be available again?
The new Twitter API policy doesn’t mean that REAP will now close down, although that is a possibility. If the site owner is unable to convince the social platform to enable the API again, perhaps they can use a different network or method to reward REAP fans.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what will become of REAP and how long before gamers can obtain rewards for sharing news about RE games, especially the new Resident Evil 4 Remake that launched recently.
