Celenic Earth Publications is delighted to announce an upcoming addition to our growing catalogue: Pages of History by Angelia, a collection featuring two historical stories that take readers into very different periods, places and personal struggles.

Featuring Enlightening and Winter Dream, Pages of History explores characters whose lives are shaped not only by the worlds around them, but also by the expectations, divisions and difficult choices of their respective eras.

While we are not announcing a release date just yet, work on the book is progressing, and we are excited to finally offer readers their first glimpse of what awaits within its pages.

Rather than revealing too much about either story, consider this an invitation to step briefly through two doors into the past.

Two Stories, Two Different Historical Worlds

One of the exciting aspects of Pages of History is the contrast between its two stories. Enlightening transports readers to the turmoil of the American Civil War, while Winter Dream journeys to Wales at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

They are very different settings, yet both allow Angelia (author of Fragments of the Past) to explore people living within societies governed by powerful expectations.

Across the collection, readers will encounter questions surrounding identity, social position, duty, conscience, love and the choices people make when what they want clashes with what their world expects of them.

The two stories contained in Pages of History are:

• Enlightening — a story set against the violence and moral upheaval of the American Civil War.
• Winter Dream — a tale of relationships, social standing and difficult choices in nineteenth-century Wales.

Together, they create a book that looks backwards into history while keeping its attention firmly fixed on the people living through it.

Enlightening: When Everything You Believe Is Challenged

Mississippi. 1862.

The American Civil War is raging, and 25-year-old Blake Dynevor serves in the Southern Army. His upbringing has given him a particular understanding of his family, his position and the society to which he belongs.

Then comes a revelation capable of changing everything.

Following the death of his landowner father, Edmund, Blake discovers something about his own origins that forces him to confront uncomfortable truths about identity, legitimacy, slavery and privilege.

What happens when a man raised within a particular system suddenly discovers that his own history is far more complicated than he ever imagined?

Enlightening places that deeply personal struggle within the wider devastation of war. As Blake’s journey continues, questions of conscience, guilt, mercy and redemption become increasingly difficult to ignore.

But this is only the beginning of his story.

Readers will have to discover for themselves where Blake’s revelations lead him and what they might ultimately cost.

Winter Dream: Between the Heart and the World

For its second story, Pages of History leaves behind the battlefields of America and travels across the Atlantic to Wales at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

In the coastal community of Llandudno, 20-year-old Rachel Elswick lives with her family at their modest inn, a property rented from the noble Claredon family.

It is a very different world from Blake Dynevor’s, but Rachel faces boundaries of another kind.

The return of Hywel Belcher, the Elswicks’ orphaned godson, after three years studying at Cardiff University brings change into the familiar world surrounding the inn. At the same time, the interest of Lord Claredon introduces complications created by social rank, expectations and the realities of securing one’s future.

For a young woman living in this period, matters of the heart cannot necessarily be separated from family, status and economic security.

Winter Dream explores that tension without offering readers an easy glimpse of where Rachel’s path will ultimately lead.

Sometimes the greatest obstacles between two people are not distance or circumstance, but the rules of the world in which they live.

Historical Fiction Centred on Human Choices

Although Enlightening and Winter Dream unfold in distinctly different historical settings, Pages of History brings them together through their focus on character.

History provides far more than scenery.

The periods in which these characters live influence what they are permitted to do, how others perceive them and what consequences may follow their decisions. Social class, war, family, identity and morality become forces capable of shaping individual lives.

That makes the personal struggles at the centre of these stories particularly important.

Readers already fascinated by historical fiction may recognise elements of the societies depicted, while those who primarily enjoy character-driven stories can discover people attempting to understand themselves within worlds very different from our own.

And sometimes, looking at the choices available to people in another century makes us consider our own from a different perspective.

Pages of History Is Coming from CEP

We are excited to welcome Angelia and Pages of History to Celenic Earth Publications.

There is still more work ahead before the book is ready to meet its readers, and for now, we are deliberately keeping some of its secrets safely tucked between the pages. There will be plenty of time to reveal more about the book, its stories and its characters as publication draws closer.

What we can reveal is that readers will be travelling from Civil War-era Mississippi to the Welsh coast of the early nineteenth century, encountering two stories filled with personal conflict, historical pressures and characters faced with choices that could change their lives.

No release date has been announced yet.
