A long weekend Monday gives us something we rarely seem to have enough of: extra time. With the usual Monday routine temporarily on hold, it can be the perfect opportunity to slow down and spend a few hours surrounded by stories.
For readers, that might mean finally picking up the novel waiting beside the bed or continuing a series you have been meaning to finish. You don’t necessarily need to spend the entire day reading. Find a comfortable spot, make your favourite drink, switch off some of the distractions and disappear into another world for an hour or two.
Writers can use the extra time creatively too. Return to that unfinished chapter, jot down an idea that has been sitting in your head, develop a character or simply read through something you wrote previously. You don’t need to produce thousands of words for the day to feel worthwhile.
You could also explore new authors and independent books that you might not normally encounter.
Stories don’t always need deadlines, targets or publishing schedules attached to them. Sometimes, the best thing you can do on a long weekend Monday is simply remember why you fell in love with books and storytelling in the first place.
