Over the past weekend, the Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicked into high gear over three days, with fans joining from all over the world. We’re not only talking about those who physically attended but also others that viewed the event online. Between the interview panels, stage discussions, and the new Indiana Jones teaser, we received new movie and series announcements and trailers.
If you have some time, you can browse through the following three videos to see some highlights of the Star Wars Celebration 2023, including Hayden Christensen making an appearance.
What is the Star Wars Celebration 2023?
Here’s a quick introduction for those of you not familiar with the event, as it’s not the first time Star Wars fans have gathered like this. This event dates back to Celebration I, which occurred between 30 April and 2 May 1999.
The Star Wars Celebration 2023 was announced last year, also known as Celebration Europe IV, and took place between 7 and 10 April 2023. It’s a massive event where announcements for new movies, series, games, and merchandise are made.
Top Announcements from Star Wars Celebration 2023
While there was plenty of action during the stellar event, some of the topics stood out for us more than others. Here’s our list of the top announcements from Star Wars Celebration 2023.
Daisy Ridley will return in three new Star Wars movies to rebuild the Jedi Order
At the end of the previous Star Wars set of movies, we saw Rey vanish to Tatooine, home of Luke Skywalker. With us wondering what happened after that, the Star Wars Celebration 2023 finally provided some answers. It appears that Rey became a Jedi Master after all.
Part of the announcement was that there will be three new Star Wars movies coming featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey. No other returning characters have been mentioned as yet, but what we do know is that Rey will set off on a mission to rebuild the Jedi Order.
Star Wars: Ahsoka trailer
It was exciting to see Ahsoka in The Mandalorian Season 2 and her reference to Anakin Skywalker losing his way. Coming this August on Disney+, we’ll finally see the character in her own series in Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 1. From the trailer below, it’s clear she’s on a personal mission to stop the Sith.
Lars Mikkelsen is set to play Grand Admiral Thrawn again in Star Wars: Ahsoka. There’s a brief moment where the character appears in the background in one of the scenes, but he showed up on stage at the Star Wars Celebration 2023 to make the announcement official.
Tales of the Jedi Season 2
Apparently, Tales of the Jedi was so much fun to make, they decided to do more. During Star Wars Celebration 2023, Filoni indicated that there will definitely be a second season. We got to see Qui-Gon Jinn as an apprentice and a Jedi Master in Season 1, giving us more details on the character from The Phantom Menace. It will definitely be exciting to see what else they come up with.
Timeline of Star Wars
One exciting feature during Star Wars Celebration 2023 was seeing the official timeline in the famous SW universe. We’re not talking about what order to watch the shows on Disney+. Instead, it holds specific eras in the timeline. If you look at the banner below, you’ll see it follows this order:
- Dawn of the Jedi
- The Old Republic
- The High Republic
- Fall of the Jedi
- Rise of the Empire
- Age of Rebellion
- The New Republic
- Rise of the First Order
- New Jedi Order (where the new three movies of Rey take place)
The Acolyte: The Tale of a Sith
While most of the shows and movies focus on the good guys, The Acolyte is bound to show us the perspective of a villain. In much the same like as Anakin in the prequels, we’ll get to see a Jedi during the High Republic and before the prequels question the Jedi Order.
It’s a time of peace, where the Jedi outnumber any enemy forces. Yet, this new character will set the stage for the darkness that will eventually cause the Jedi to fall by the hands of Anakin.
Andor Season 2
Sadly, the second season of Andor will also be its last. Since we already know what will happen to the characters in the future Star Wars plot, the episodes will focus on leading up to those events. According to the discussions during Star Wars Celebration 2023, three episodes will span a year, which shows how they’re speeding things up towards the dramatic ending.
The Future of The Mandalorian
While we’ve become used to Din Djarin as The Mandalorian who cares for Grogu in the first two seasons, the third season opened up to more of his kind appearing. If what we’ve read and heard so far from the Star Wars Celebration 2023 is true, we’ll be seeing more main characters appear with less of a focus on Din. There are no official details as yet, but it’s a start.
