It looks like the proverbial cat is out of the bag, or perhaps it’s The Rock between two hard places? In an Instagram story shared by Zachary Levi, it appears that Shazam should have shown up in the post-credits scene of the Black Adam movie. Instead, Dwayne Johnson made a move to ensure that didn’t happen.
Was this a malicious move by Dwayne Johnson? I don’t think so. I think he just had his own plans. I’m not sure how many of you have heard the old rumours, but it seemed at one point as if Johnson was trying to take control of the DC Universe. As a matter of fact, it’s well known now that he specifically asked for Henry Cavill to appear as Superman.
From what we’ve read online, there’s talk that Johnson wanted the new period of the DCU to revolve around Superman and Black Adam. There were even comic book references to the post-credit scene with Superman telling Black Adam that they need to talk.
What was the original plan for the Black Adam post-credits scene? Well, it looks like the Justice Society of America was going to appear, asking Shazam (Zachary Levi) to join their league. If you’ve seen Shazam: Fury of the Gods, you would realise that this would have been a natural progression and teaser for the end of Black Adam.
However, Johnson had other plans. He got his way, and Superman appeared instead. And then, James Gunn decided to reboot the entire DCU, and Henry Cavill was no longer Superman. It also looks like Johnson will no longer have a part to play in the new DCU era.
