Last night was probably one of the biggest nights in gaming history. We all waiting in anticipation for the Silent Hill Transmission show to take place, eager to see what Konami had in store for us. While it confirmed a few leaks we already knew about, it also show some new things we didn’t expect. And there was no pachinko machine!
Let me break down what was revealed and my thoughts on each one.
Silent Hill Transmission: The waiting fans
The YouTube channel had the Silent Hill Transmission show ready a few hours before it went live. If you were also waiting for it to begin, you may have seen thousands of comments on what to expect. It was a wall of text that just kept running between negative and positive comments.
Finally, the time arrived, and a timer started counting down from five minutes. We heard music from the games. There was the Fog. Finally, the show started…..
Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Silent Hill Transmission started with Konami revealing what many of us expected: a remake of Silent Hill 2. We saw some footage during the show, which presented brand-new graphics for a title we know so well. There’s way more expression on the faces, and it very much looks enhanced.
Konami seems to be taking example from Resident Evil by remaking the most popular game first. It would have been great if they could have started from the first one, but it ties in with the new upcoming movie by Christophe Gans. If you recall, the first two Silent Hill movies were based on SH1 and SH3. With Return to Silent Hill supposedly based on SH2, it makes sense they would remake the game.
Silent Hill Townfall
What we weren’t expecting was a trailer for a new game called Silent Hill Townfall. Sure, we suspected a new game was coming, and Konami finally revealed the title. The trailer doesn’t actually tell us much, except that a new game is coming.
If we just focus on the name alone, I wonder if it’s in reference to a time when Silent Hill fell, burned to the ground while chaos reigned in our beloved town. Sure, we already know why it burned from SH1, the first movie, and Silent Hill Origins. Maybe Townfall takes another look at it or from something else that happened at that time.
Silent Hill Ascension
Silent Hill Transmission didn’t just have one new game reveal; it had two. SH Ascension didn’t have much of a trailer, but Konami and the team explained it has something to do with online multiplayer gameplay. Apparently, you make choices that you can’t go back on, which means you can’t reset. That means it’s either an interactive show like you’d see on Netflix, or it will be an MMOHRPG (MMO horror RPG). Yes, we’re officially coining that term.
What makes this an exciting announcement from the Silent Hill Transmission is that one of the teams involved with the SH elements of Dead by Daylight is part of this project. That means we might be seeing similar gameplay in terms of teamwork.
Silent Hill f
As if two new games and a remake weren’t enough, Silent Hill Transmission revealed another title. Silent Hill f looks like it takes place in Japan, actually, and the trailer was utterly beautiful and fantastic. It really sent chills up my spine. It looks like it contains brand-new concepts we haven’t seen before; I’m actually excited about this one.
The trailer revealed at the Silent Hill Transmission doesn’t really tell us much about the story, but it’s still exciting. And gory and thrilling, which is also important. There’s some real creepiness in the waters, which is new for the series.
Return to Silent Hill movie
Alright, so we knew this was coming, as you can see in one of our more recent posts about multiple Silent Hill games. Christophe gans is indeed working on a new movie called Return to Silent Hill. It’s meant to tie in with the SH2 remake, and the poster below does make it look like James Sunderland standing there.
Many fans are saying that Konami is milking the proverbial cash cow with so much new content on SH2 in the Silent Hill Transmission. However, I think it’s actually the logical next step. With SH1 and SH3 brought to the big screen, it’s time for SH2 to do the same. Hopefully, that means we’ll see an adaptation of SH4, too.
Silent Hill Merchandise
There was one segment during the Silent Hill Transmission that dealt with the merchandise. There are some new figurines that look cool, while I think the boards caught everyone’s attention. To be honest, I thought that this was where we would see the pachinko machine announcements.
No P.T. or mention of Silent Hill: Betrayal game adaptation yet
Sadly, there was no mention of P.T. or Silent Hills. The Silent Hill Transmission remained strangely silent on that demo, which is probably for the best. I was secretly hoping to hear surprising news that Konami might be working with me on an adaptation of my horror novel, Silent Hill: Betrayal. That was high hopes indeed.
Oh well, I’ll just keep working on Silent Hill: Obversion and the other books in the SH Boatman saga.
Final thoughts on the Silent Hill Transmission
That’s all there was for the Silent Hill Transmission, which took about 40 mins to air. It was thrilling and exciting to see, and my blood boiled with excitement as the fog rolled in at the start. It looks to be an exhilarating time for the franchise ahead. I’ll try to release SH: Obversion before the new games and movie arrives.
